Discover the 1100 Highland Wetlands on Jeju Island
Tucked away in the serene heart of Jeju Island lies a lesser-known, nature-rich treasure – the 1100 Highland Wetlands, located in Seogwipo-si’s Saekdal-dong, San 1-2. Nestled along the slopes of Hallasan Mountain, this secluded wetland rest stop is a unique ecological zone you won’t find elsewhere easily.

Perched approximately 1,100 meters above sea level, the wetlands are often shrouded in mysterious mist, especially during the autumn season. This creates a dreamlike landscape where vibrant fall foliage contrasts against foggy mountain vistas. It’s a dreamy photo spot for travelers and shutterbugs alike, with Hallasan looming silently in the background.

What makes this location extraordinary is not only the scenery but the rarity of its wildlife. Various endangered and protected species call this wetland home, making it a haven for eco-travelers and wildlife photographers. You might spot wild deer or exotic birds along the wooden boardwalk trails.
Getting There
The 1100 Highland Wetlands can be accessed directly via public transportation. From Jeju Intercity Bus Terminal, take a bus heading toward Seogwipo via the 1100 Highland (일행 고지). The name comes from the altitude, and there’s a dedicated bus stop right near the entrance. Taxis and rental cars are also accessible options.
Keep in mind, the road to the wetlands – the 1100 Road – is known for its winding curves, especially in fog or during rainy months. Always check the weather before heading up.
