According to a recent report from global travel platform Agoda, Daejeon has been ranked as the 9th most affordable travel destination in Asia, with an average lodging cost of 126,294 KRW per night. This recognition highlights Daejeon’s potential as a city where budget-conscious travelers can enjoy a rich experience without breaking the bank.

A Surge in Tourist Arrival Rates

In recent tourism data released by the Korea Tourism Organization, Daejeon is showing a noteworthy increase in popularity. The city welcomed approximately 8.463 million visitors in 2024, marking a 3.1% increase from the previous year. Additionally, a report from Consumer Insight reveals that the percentage of travelers visiting Daejeon has risen by 1.0 percentage points compared to 2023, recording the highest growth rate in the country. These statistics underline Daejeon’s growing reputation as a must-visit location for both domestic and international tourists.

Focus on Sustainable Tourism Development

Building on these positive developments, Daejeon is actively working to enhance its tourism ecosystem by aiming to extend visitor stays and encourage repeat visits. The city plans to implement targeted digital marketing strategies, particularly aimed at the MZ generation, while also promoting nighttime attractions and developing tailored content to meet varying consumer demands. Mayor Lee Jang-woo has emphasized that Daejeon is solidifying its status as a representative tourism city in South Korea.
